When you join me for yoga, energy work, or practices like tai chi or qigong, I want you to feel completely at ease. You don’t need brand-name yoga pants or high-end gear. In fact, I encourage natural fabrics—cotton, linen—whatever feels good. This isn’t about the “right” mat or looking perfect. None of that matters here.
Our practices are grounded in ancient foundations. The roots of yoga, and all energy work, stem from a time when people lived in deep connection with nature. Even martial arts emulate nature—they mirror the animals, the elements. Yoga’s spiritual essence comes from understanding the body’s energy—its meridians, chakras, and nadis, the lines through which energy flows. Like a young tree, we become flexible in body and spirit. These foundations remind us that yoga is about aligning with the natural world.
Patanjali’s teachings from the Yoga Sutras echo this essence. He described yoga as the path to still the fluctuations of the mind, to unite the body, mind, and spirit. This journey is about self-realization, not external validation. Patanjali emphasized ethical principles—non-violence, truth, self-discipline—as well as breath and meditative focus. That’s the true essence: union with yourself and nature.
The deeper roots of yoga don’t care what you’re wearing; it’s about the journey inward and connecting with your truest self. If you’re worried you don’t have the “right” yoga clothes or think you must buy crystals and props, let me tell you—spirituality isn’t spirituality by numbers. You don’t need a checklist of items to become spiritual or do yoga. Actually, you don’t have to buy anything at all. You just show up, do the work, find the self-discipline, and let me be your guide by your side. I’m here until you’re ready to do it on your own.
There are many ways to practice yoga. Some enjoy indoor studios, and that’s wonderful for them. My purpose is different—it’s all about nature. I prefer we step outside, barefoot on the grass, feeling the earth. Let’s do yoga under the sky—whatever you wear doesn’t matter, as long as you’re comfortable. And if we’re outside in the sun, let’s think natural—wear a hat, find shade under a tree. No chemicals—just nature protecting you. Hug a tree, feel the breeze—raw, natural, and grounding. That’s where the magic happens.
